Responsibilities:
This is a part-time, up to 29 hours per week, position that reports to the agency's Information Security Manager.
Specific responsibilities performed by the OPS Cyber Security Support Specialist include, but are not limited to, the following:
Technical Support:
provide technical assistance and support to users in resolving cybersecurity-related issues, including malware infections, network breaches, and suspicious activities.
Troubleshoot security incidents, investigate security breaches, and contribute to incident response efforts.
Security Monitoring:
monitor security systems and tools to identify and respond to potential security incidents promptly.
Analyze security logs, alerts, and reports to identify patterns or anomalies indicative of unauthorized access or malicious activities.
Escalate and report incidents as per established protocols.
Vulnerability Management:
assist in vulnerability scanning, assessment, and management processes.
Collaborate with the cybersecurity team to identify and mitigate vulnerabilities across the organization's systems and networks.
Track and report on vulnerability remediation progress.
Security Documentation and Reporting:
maintain documentation related to security policies, procedures, and incident response protocols.
Assist in creating reports, metrics, and documentation for compliance purposes, audits, and management review.
User Awareness and Training:
support cybersecurity awareness initiatives by creating and delivering user training programs, providing guidance on safe computing practices, and promoting security best practices among employees.
Security Tools and Technologies:
help implement, configure, and maintain security tools and technologies, such as firewalls, intrusion detection systems (IDS), antivirus software, and security information and event management (SIEM) systems.
Collaboration and Communication:
collaborate with cross-functional teams, including IT, network administrators, and application developers, to address security concerns and implement appropriate security measures.
Communicate security-related incidents, risks, and recommendations to management and stakeholders.
Agency Training:
DMS offers extensive internal training programs to support the continuous development of our OPS Cyber Security Support Specialists.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Knowledge of cybersecurity principles, best practices, and technologies.
Familiarity with security tools and technologies, such as firewalls, IDS/IPS systems, antivirus software, SIEM systems, and vulnerability scanners.
Understanding of network protocols, operating systems, and scripting languages.
Analytical and problem-solving skills to investigate and resolve security incidents.
Strong communication skills to convey technical information to non-technical stakeholders and document processes accurately.
Willingness to stay up-to-date on the latest cybersecurity trends, threats, and technologies through self-study, training, and industry certifications.
Minimum
Qualifications:
A high school diploma or its equivalent.
Basic knowledge of computer systems and networks.
Demonstrated interest in cybersecurity through coursework, certifications, or self-study.
Strong willingness to learn and develop skills in the field of cybersecurity.
