The Christmas shift includes Christmas Eve, Christmas Day, and the adjacent weekend (when applicable).
The Thanksgiving shift runs Thursday through Sunday.
A bonus of at least $250 will be given for each of these holidays.
Must be able to work at least 2 of the remaining major holidays (Memorial Day, Labor Day, 4th of July, and New Year's Eve).
A bonus of at least $150 will be given for each of these holidays.
Because our office is closed for all major holidays, you are only required to work for as long as it takes to care for all the boarding animals, which is usually less than 2 hours for each shift (morning and afternoon).
Must be able to read, write, and speak the English language.
JOB DESCRIPTION This job is particularly well suited for those looking to become CVTs or Veterinarians, as ample time will be spent assisting in the technical areas of the hospital.
Veterinary kennel technicians are responsible for the day-to-day care of all hospitalized patients and boarding animals.
This includes feeding, cleaning, walking, bathing, and monitoring the well being of dogs, cats and, occasionally, other companion animals.
Kennel technicians must have sufficient physical strength to lift and/or move heavy pets and objects, the confidence to administer medications, and the capacity to monitor pets for signs of distress or disease.
It is essential that they have the ability and willingness to learn and the desire to provide gentle, compassionate care.
Although kennel experience is not a prerequisite for this position, it is certainly advantageous.
The general duties of a kennel technician consist of, but are not limited to, the following:
Exercise all boarding animals and hospitalized patients.
Provide food and water for all boarding and hospitalized patients.
Administer topical and oral medications.
Perform medicated baths and dips.
Express anal glands.
Trim nails.
Clip/shave and remove matted hair.
Restrain aggressive animals in a manner that minimizes patient stress and ensures the safety of both pets and people.
Set up and maintain accurate records for each animal's weight, medication(s), diet, appetite, and eliminations.
Receive boarding animals from their owners at drop-off.
Release boarding animals to their owners at pick-up.
De-flea and de-tick patients with flea combs, flea sprays, baths, and dips.
Clean and disinfect all treatment and kennel runs, suites, cages, tubs, floors, and walls.
Scoop and sanitize exercise yards.
Ensure the proper functioning of all kennel equipment.
Clean and restock food bins, note low inventory levels.
Gather all hospital waste and place in designated receptacles.
Sweep, vacuum, and mop all hospital floors and rugs.
