Archeological Technician

The primary duties of this job involve assisting other archaeological technicians and professional archaeologists conducting archaeological monitoring, survey, and excavation of archaeological resources in the parks, and sometimes as part of technical assistance rendered to other non-NPS heritage partners. Fieldwork includes locating prehistoric and historic sites, recording archaeological and environmental data, maintaining essential field documentation, and reporting the information collected. Laboratory work includes production of field catalogs and inventories of archaeological data, completing Cultural Site Inventory forms, analyzing artifacts, and field data, producing maps and drawings, database entry, cataloging, and producing summary reports of the results. To qualify for this position at the GS-05 grade level, you must possess one of the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
SPECIALIZED
Experience:
Must possess 1 year of specialized experience which was equivalent to at least GS-4 level in federal service. Specialized experience is experience that equipped the applicant with general knowledge, skills, and abilities needed to successfully perform the duties of the position and that is typically in or related to the work of the position. Examples of specialized experience include, but are not limited to, the following:
participating in cultural resource inventory surveys, archeological field surveys; archeological excavation projects; prehistoric architectural assessments and documentation projects, laboratory analysis of artifacts, and preparation of technical cultural resource reports .-OR- EDUCATION:
. Successfully completed a 4-year course of study above high school leading to a bachelor's degree with courses in anthropology, archeology, or related fields. .-OR- COMBINATION OF UNDERGRADUATE EDUCATION AND SPECIALIZED

Experience:
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. You must include months, years and hours per week worked to receive credit for your work and/or volunteer experience. One year of specialized experience is equivalent to 12 months at 40 hours per week. Part-time hours are prorated. You will not receive any credit for experience that does not indicate exact hours per week or is listed as varies.

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
