About the Commission:

The Florida Commission on Human Relations is the state agency charged with enforcing the state s civil rights laws and serves as a resource on human relations for the people of Florida. It is against Florida law to discriminate on the basis of race, color, religion, sex, national origin, age, disability, marital status or familial status. The Commission investigates complaints of discrimination in the areas of employment, housing, public accommodations and state employee whistle-blower retaliation.

The Commission is responsible for promoting fair treatment, equal opportunity, and mutual respect among members of all economic, social, racial, religious and ethnic groups and works to eliminate discrimination against groups and their members.

What will I be doing?

This is an independent professional position as the Regulatory Specialist I conducting inquires about discrimination cases within the State of Florida. The incumbent will gather and record information accurately and thoroughly through interviews and or correspondence with parties involved in the investigation. Conducting research and collecting facts about any complaint assigned and must be able to write investigative reports within the statutory timeframes. Testifying and appearing before the Commission panels and in civil court proceedings and administrative hearings, regarding investigative findings and recommendations.

The Regulatory Specialist I is a highly professional position performed under the supervision of the Housing Investigations Supervisor. The successful candidate for this position will conduct inquiries, counsel inquirers,and potential complainants about housing discrimination under the provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1992.

Specific responsibilities include:
Researches and obtains records, information, and evidence necessary to complete and investigate assigned
cases.
Conducts fact-finding sessions and interviews, conciliation conferences, and investigations throughout the
Agency s Fair Housing Enforcement jurisdiction.
Counsels and provides information to the public about alleged discrimination in the area of Housing.


Qualifications:

An associate s degree from an accredited institution and two years of professional or nonprofessional
experience in administrative work and/or professional regulation or field related to area of responsibility; or
A bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
Professional or nonprofessional experience in administrative work, professional regulation, consumer
complaint program work, interviewing, business administration, customer or public relations, or investigations
may be substituted on a year-for-year basis for the required college education.
The successful candidate must demonstrate the following knowledge, skills, and abilities:

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
