THIS IS AN OPS POSITION

The Agency for Persons with Disabilities works in partnership with local communities to support people with developmental disabilities in living, learning, and working in their communities. APD provides critical services and supports for customers with developmental disabilities to reach their full potential. The Agency serves people with spina bifida, autism, Down syndrome, children age 3-5 at high risk of developmental disabilities, cerebral palsy, Prader-Willi syndrome, Phelan-McDermid syndrome, and intellectual disabilities. There is no charge or co-payment for services provided through the Agency.

The State of Florida participates in the VALIC National Plan for OPS employees. The VALIC National Plan includes two tax-qualified, defined-contribution retirement investment plans. BACKGROUND SCREENING REQUIREMENT:

It is the policy of the Florida Agency for Persons with Disabilities that applicants for employment undergo Level 2 employment screening in accordance with the requirements of Chapter 435, Florida Statutes, as a condition of employment or being permitted to serve as a volunteer.
No applicant for a designated position will be employed or permitted to volunteer until the Level 2 screening results are received, reviewed, and approved by the Agency.
Level 2 background screening shall include, but not be limited to, fingerprinting for Statewide criminal and juvenile records checks through the Florida Department of Law Enforcement, and Federal criminal records checks through the Federal Bureau of Investigation, and may include local criminal records checks through local law enforcement agencies.

DUTIES:

Employees of the Agency for Persons with Disabilities are required to demonstrate total commitment to outstanding customer service. This includes, but is not limited to, always acting in a responsive, professional, courteous manner with the employees, customers and public we serve at all times.

This position is responsible for providing a wide variety of complex legal, administrative and clerical functions for multiple attorneys requiring independent judgment, action, knowledge of laws and regulations, including making frequent decisions in accordance with organizational policies and practices. The incumbent will require minimum supervision while carrying out assigned duties. As assigned by any attorney:

Provide Quality customer service and safeguard confidential information.

Provide legal support and research case law to assist attorneys.

Maintain case files.

Retrieving, interpreting, and updating case data from various systems.

Preparing a variety of legal documents for attorney review and/or signature.

Scheduling, attending, and assisting in judicial and administrative proceedings.

Initiating, receiving, and responding to communication with parties, court officials, clerk staff, opposing counsel, and Agency staff.

Developing and/or maintaining data lists and databases.

Other duties necessary to provide legal services for agency case.

Estimated Salary: $20 to $28 per hour based on qualifications.

Don't Be Fooled

The fraudster will send a check to the victim who has accepted a job. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
