Designed and built master data management program and implemented tools for data stewards to establish data “golden records” and push scrubbed data to applications systems. Designed and implemented data warehousing based on EDW 2.0 best practices including use of Data Vault methodology and BIML framework to provide highly scalable, high performance and agile structures and star schema data marts for high performance data analytics/mining. Implemented SSAS cubes for analyzing and managing revenue, general ledger and profitability. Split testing Big Data feeds (Hadoop/MongoDB) for data warehouse staging and social media analytics. Implemented SSRS-based dashboards for attorneys to manage their own work, manage clients and billings, and monitor staff. Implemented Oracle/Hyperion and Cognos/Informatica dashboards and balanced scorecards for firm operations by Finance and Human Resources departments. Mentored junior staff on ETL programming, SQL optimization and SQL Server performance tuning.
2011-2013 Microsoft Multiple locations
Provided SharePoint design and deployment services to secure federal clients including Information Architecture, Enterprise Content Management, PowerShell scripting, multi-farm deployment with shared services, branding and customization, virtualization strategies, automated load & performance testing, and governance planning. Farms ranged from single tier development farms to multi-farm/multi-country production environments. Consulted on migration planning and upgrading from 2007 to 2010 and 2013.
2001-2011 Florida Dept. of Education Tallahassee, FL
Data Architect (Education Data Warehouse)
Improved information quality, accessibility and usefulness of education data in the state of Florida by architecting the first initiative world-wide to track student information from kindergarten through graduate school in a single integrated system. Constructed a five-year roadmap based on the Government Information Factory methodology. Created all of the conceptual, logical and physical models for a 5NF data warehouse and extraction to star schema data marts. Prepared briefings for upper management to help socialize the movement to business intelligence approaches to policymaking. Improved staff skills and timely response to information requests by creating a shared knowledge base of techniques in using Microsoft and Cognos Business Intelligence tools, advanced SQL and MDX coding, and data visualization techniques. Improved internal processes through creation of a SharePoint collaborative environment and automated workflows. DBA for the business intelligence environment (Oracle 10g and MS SQL Server 2005/2008).
In 2010 assumed responsibilities for the infrastructure and architecture of Sunshine Connections, a SharePoint portal for administrators and educators statewide to share information, provide fundamental business intelligence, and collaborate on projects and tasks pertinent to public education in Florida. Managed a support staff of two permanent positions plus contractors to support the original implementation and redesign a greatly expanded environment to support federal initiatives. The new architecture was designed to support 200,000 users and provide for applications development throughout the full ISDM life cycle, business intelligence, data mining and exploration, team collaboration and training, and secure data sharing.
